"I
wrote The Savvy Consumer in five
manic months of nights and weekends. It was eerie. The information came
bubbling out of me almost effortlessly. Actually, it was a relief. I
had so much knowledge rattling around in my head that I was becoming
a bore at parties! I was always lecturing people about things like getting
half off on title insurance or how to stop junk mail. I wrote
The Savvy Consumer because I really want to share my know-how and help
people. I made plenty of consumer mistakes before I started covering
the issue for a living. And it was always so hard to figure out where
to turn for help. Sometimes there just isn't anybody who WILL help.
Government agencies are overworked and understaffed. It's much easier
to make wise choices before you buy than it is to pick up the pieces
afterward. In my
own life as a consumer, I've become paralyzed with paranoia! I know
too much! I see scams in every situation and con artists around every
corner. Still, I want you to be like me. There are so many schemes,
scams and flim flams out there, that it pays to be paranoid - literally!
It's easier to keep the money you have than it is to make more of it.
I hope you'll read my book and become a savvy consumer. I could use
the company! I want to thank my publisher for taking a chance, my colleagues for sharing their knowledge, and my friends and family for sharing their love. I thank YOU for your support."
